After a long week of work, isn’t time to get out and unwind with the family? You bet it is! This weekend, jazz it up a bit, literally! The New England Jazz & Blues Festival kicks off this weekend at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury. The event is produced by Mike Gow who has co-hosted the Litchfield Jazz Festival for many years. Now, he is bringing the excitement of jazz to Middlebury. This is the first annual event and it’s a unique opportunity to enjoy some fun filled action on the rides of the amusement park while enjoying a little jazz throughout the afternoon and evening. The price of the admission includes the show, rides, and parking.
All the fun starts Saturday at 1PM as the Nicole Zuraitis Group opens up the world of entertainment to a variety of other performers such as groups like Chris Brubeck & Triple Play, Kal David & The Real Deal, and Hall of Famer James Cotton w/special guest Billy Squier. Can’t make the show Saturday? No problem! The fun continues on into Sunday with even more performers such as Ali Ryerson Quintet, Roomful of Blues, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds featuring Kim Wilson. A portion of the proceeds to these shows will support Litchfield Jazz Camp Scholarships so as you’re enjoying a great day out, you’re also doing good to support the arts and culture as well.
After you’ve enjoyed a day of splendor filled with activities that will knock your socks off as you listen to all the jazz greats entertain for the masses, head on over to the After Hours Party which will take place at 10PM at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Southbury. All ticket holders are invited to the event, and admission to the party is also included in the ticket price. This is your chance to spend the night with the entertainers as you get up close and personal with them. Join in on all the excitement by bringing your guitar or other musical instruments!
