There’s just something about summer and ice cream that makes the world seem like a better place. Maybe it’s that perfect combination of a delectable frozen desert on a warm New England summer day. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s the treat that brings many back many childhood memories for so many of us as we playback images in our minds of running around on the farm or our neighborhoods in the afternoon with our friends after a long day of school. Whatever it may be, ice cream is a treat that never gets old, even as we grow older! There’s plenty of fun places to go to enjoy ice cream as we reconcile memories of yesterday. There’s one place in particular, however, that will really have you screaming for this perfect summer treat and it’s located right in the heart of the good old southern Berkshires.
It’s SoCo Creamery of Great Barrington, MA! SoCo Creamery is one of those fun places you go to and you’re instantly transported back in time to the simple times of America. It’s one of those places that will get you thinking as you look over their chalkboard menu of delicious options while standing on their black and white checkerboard floor. It really is the environment of this snazzy little brick building on a rather narrow street in downtown Great Barrington that puts everything in perspective. SoCo is home to the best ice cream in our region, hands down. It’s soft ice cream is so delicious, that us New Englander’s call it “Wicked delicious!”. My stop at SoCo never goes without paying a generous tribute to the best ice cream in the land. They have a variety of options of how best to enjoy this savory treat, including mouth watering shakes that will boost the soul. One of my personal favorites is their coffee ice cream shake with mint chocolate chip. Talk about wicked delicious. This is the perfect pick me up to boost your day!
SoCo is all about variety, and boy do they have variety. You can stand at the menu board for as long as you wanted to and you probably still couldn’t decide what to get! Don’t worry, you wouldn’t be the only one. Many people, myself included, have that exact dilemma. Thankfully, however, SoCo has a variety of different ways I can enjoy the flavor of summer. You see, not only are they located in Great Barrington, but there are a variety of retail outlets that offer their ice cream, including places in Litchfield County such as Annie Bananie Ice Cream in Kent, which is located in the Backcountry Outfitters shop. Isn’t it great to know that this rich, flavorful, ice cream is never really all that far away? What’s a few miles between childhood memories!
