In these modern days of ours, it is harder than ever at getting a shot of love that just seems to fit like a glove on your hand. I mean, have you seen the amount of apps that are out there? One could get lost down a rabbit hole looking for love on a rainy day.
As someone who has been single for the past two years since my last solid relationship, I’ve been on a quest ever since just attempting to find my partner in crime. Oh, and I’m not getting any younger either. In fact, I just turned 31 and looked at the wedding I thought I was going to have at 30 in the rearview mirror.
No love. No wedding. More money!
No. That’s not how that’s supposed to go. I’m supposed to shower a lover with gifts! Surprise dinners. Memorable vacations. Little things here and there to show one that they are constantly on my mind.
While it’s great to spend money on yourself, it gets boring rather quickly. The rabbit hole adventures are getting worse, too. How many more times do I have to keep swiping on the people I don’t want to mingle with or logging onto Grindr just to discover the same faces?
It’s a depressing dating world.
The simple fact of the matter is, we’re doing it wrong. I mean, why should we continue to stay on apps we don’t enjoy and kill so much of our time and energy hovering over faces and torsos hoping mister right comes popping out of the screen?
Spoiler alert! It’s not going to happen!
What we need to do is start with friendship. A very good friend of mine once told me that. Every successful relationship is one that is cultivated out of friendship. If you stop to think about it, my friend is pretty spot on.
Friends have a lot to offer us. We mingle with them as much as we possibly could, and maybe that’s the point. When you really get along with someone, it’s a breath of fresh air and an added plus is that you actually enjoy spending time together.
Start with friendship? Perhaps it’s time we take a dive deeper into the people who surround us in our lives already for our next relationship.
