Here is my game plan

Let’s face it, Trump will be our next president. There’s no use in going down conspiracy rabbit holes or holding onto a false hope. I’m optimistic about the years ahead. Kamala has conceded, and it’s time to move forward. We move forward with intent, and steadfast solutions. It is critical for us to follow some kind of plan that we can always refer to when the going gets rough. Will it for certain? We do not yet know, but I like doing the work to stay ahead.

I propose a game plan. This game plan is comprehensive and has actionable steps and it will be my personal foundation for the years ahead. If you think this resonates with you, then I’d love for this to be your game plan, too, and I’d love for you to share it.

10 Point Plan for Supporting LGBTQ Rights in the Face of Political Change

  1. Stay Informed
Keep updated on national and state-level policies affecting LGBTQ rights. Follow trusted news sources, organizations, and advocacy groups that provide information on upcoming legislative changes.

  2. Support LGBTQ Organizations
Donate to organizations that actively advocate for LGBTQ rights. Notable organizations include the Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, the Trevor Project, and the ACLU’s LGBTQ Project. Your contributions help fund essential programs and initiatives.

  3. Contact Your Representatives
Write to your local and national representatives to express your support for LGBTQ rights. Use social media platforms, emails, and traditional mail to convey your message about maintaining and enhancing rights for the LGBTQ community.

  4. Participate in Local Advocacy
Join local LGBTQ advocacy groups or community organizations. Participate in meetings, rallies, and events aimed at raising awareness and pushing for policy changes at the local level.

  5. Educate Yourself and Others
Engaging in discussions about LGBTQ issues can help change minds and foster understanding. Organize or attend workshops, lectures, or community forums to educate yourself and others about LGBTQ rights and the importance of advocacy.

  6. Mental Health and Well-being
Recognize the potential impact of political changes on mental health. Promote resources for mental well-being, such as therapists specializing in LGBTQ issues. Establish support groups to create safe spaces for sharing experiences and coping strategies.

  7. Encourage Safe Spaces
Advocate for the establishment of safe spaces in your community and workplace. These spaces should support LGBTQ individuals and foster discussions about rights, experiences, and empowerment.

  8. Mobilize Allies
Engage allies of the LGBTQ community to amplify the message. Coordinate efforts with allies who can help advocate for rights and challenge discriminatory practices through actions and conversations in their networks.

  9. Focus on Youth Outreach
Support initiatives that educate and empower LGBTQ youth. Volunteer with organizations that offer mentorship programs, scholarships, and resources, ensuring young individuals have the support they need to thrive.

  10. Commit to Long-term Engagement
Acknowledge that advocacy is an ongoing process. Commit to being active in your community and in broader movements. Set personal goals for regular involvement, whether through volunteering, attending events, or continuing donations.

By taking these steps, we can collectively work towards preserving and advancing LGBTQ rights, fostering a resilient community in the face of potential challenges. Together, we can advocate for a brighter, more inclusive future.
